Basketball

Charlotte PAL joined forces with Coca-Cola Corporation and Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation to sponsor the Coca-Cola-PAL Summer Basketball League for 7-8 year olds. 80 kids participated on 8 teams all named after Coca Cola products. The team names are: Coca-Cola Zero, Diet Coke, Fuze, PowerAde, PowerAde Zero, Sprite Zero, Dasani and Minute Maid. All games were held at Greenville Center. Sign ups run the months of March and April. The regular season runs the months of June and July. All teams are entered into the playoff competition, which leads to a champion being named for the year. Coaches for the teams included several police officers, CFD fireman, CMS teachers, corporate volunteers and parents, who wanted to become involved. All coaches were subjected to a rigorous criminal background investigation. This league focuses on teamwork, leadership and citizenship.

Requirements:
PAL requires copies of the participant's birth certificate, last quarter report card and PAL New Member Registration Form. Youth with a GPA below 2.0 are required to attend tutoring in order to be eligible for competition. Certified teachers provide several tutoring sessions during the week at all PAL locations.

Registration begins May 2, 2011.
Registration Cost: $50.00 per calendar year
