PAL After-School Enrichment and Youth Leadership Programs
The Police Activities League is in the process of opening and operating several Structured Educational & Experiential Youth After-School Programs within various Charlotte-Mecklenburg communities'. PAL's purpose in embarking on such an endeavor is in being able to expand and increase the availability of safe, affordable and supervised options for a great many low-income underserved youth, at-risk youth, as well as, youth that are simply in need of a special and inviting environment who reside within communities' of need and that are between the ages of eight (8) – sixteen (16) and who would otherwise be unsupervised during the hours of 2:00pm – 7:00pm during the school year. The PAL program seeks to serve youth who are "latchkey" and/or who may have suspension issues, truancy and school attendance issues, problems with their grades, as well as, serve youth who if not in an after-school program may consider the invitation of gang involvement. This program and its activities will be designed to provide alternatives to high risk behaviors of teen pregnancy, juvenile crime and gang engagement through structured activities and educational assistance during out of school time hours.
PAL is in the process of securing community based agencies from which to partner and operate with, as well as, exploring and securing financial proceeds from which to effectively operate this much needed and desired after-school program for youth.
